Font: The font used of the front cover can be described as
being ‘pop-artish’. Predominantly featuring serif font, the front cover
features an arrangement of sizes in font giving it a childish feel as your eyes
are drawn to different places on the front cover.
Text: The text used on the front cover seems to be a range of
different colours and always contrasts the colour that is behind it. This makes
the text easier to read and gives the
whole front cover a more vibrant feel.
Colour: The colours of the front cover are predominantly red,
white and blue. This is due to the fact that the particular issue of the
magazine is British themed. The black makes particular words stand out on the
front cover due there being a lack of the colour.
Body language/staging:
The band ‘One Direction’ are the min focus of the front cover. They are
centered and slightly pushed towards the top of the page to fit the banner
across the bottom. The band all portray
positivity and fun as they smile towards the camera and look as if they are
playing a friendly game of ‘pile on’.
Framing: The band is framed centrally and towards the top of
the page. They are framed by texts and pictures on all sides making the front
cover peer crowded but it gives an effect of playfulness as they all try to fit
into the front cover image.
Lighting: The lighting behind the band is plain white, so as
not to draw attention away from them. The band themselves are also in a bright
light to represent the type of music they make, they also look more accessible
and open, as if they are inviting you to listen to them. A listener would know
what they would be getting unlike if the band was cast in shadows or had a dark
background to make them look more mysterious.
Composition: The composition of this magazine gives it
professional look yet at the same time it also comes across as childish or as
if it would appeal to a younger, less mature audience. The image when grouped
together with the main image and various other images on the front cover make
the front cover appeared cramped but also gives the reader an impression that
the magazine is packed with interesting articles making them more likely to buy
it as they are getting their money’s worth.
