Front Cover Deconstruction - Top of the Pops Magazine

This is an image of the front cover of Top of the Pops magazine I will be analysing.

Font: The font on the front cover of this magazine is predominantly serif and is in a range of sizes. This attracts the reader eye to different places on the front cover and helps them to find out quickly what will be the main articles in the magazine.
Text: The text on the front cover is white, red and black and tends to be the opposite colour of the background colour behind it. This makes the text stand out and makes it appear more attractive.
Colour: The colours on the front cover make it apparent that it would attract a young, less mature female audience. The pink and white contrast each other and make particular words stand out attracting the readers eye. The magazine would appeal to a less mature female audience due to it’s colour scheme as well as the type of article and celebrity news featured inside.
Body language/Staging:  The staging of the band on the front cover links into the main article featured  within the magazine. The women look as if they have been let in on the secret ‘one of these girls’ apparently has. This entices the reader to buy the magazine as they will be informed as to what the secret is. The facial expressions are positive and help the reader to know just exactly what type the secret might be.
Framing: The band featured on the front of this magazine is framed from all sides with text as well as images. They are framed towards the bottom of the page and off to the right. This makes way for the images relating to the other articles within the magazine. This again tells the reader how much they are getting for their money.
Lighting: The image of the band on the front cover is well-lit. The background is white so as to not distract us from the main image, it also helps the band to appear more tanned and therefore more attractive to most of the population/readers. The lighting also gives you an insight to what type of music the band make, as if there was shadows the band would appear mysterious, but the bright lighting makes us think the music will also be bright, light and fun.
Composition:The composition of this magazine gives it professional look yet at the same time it also comes across as childish or as if it would appeal to a younger, less mature audience. The image when grouped together with the main image and various other images on the front cover make the front cover appeared cramped but also gives the reader an impression that the magazine is packed with interesting articles making them more likely to buy it as they are getting their money’s worth.
